Notes from, and in addition to, our video tutorial –

[my extra notes in italics]

The images fall into a series of chapters and further editing is required to refine this.  Keep looking at layout and ask for feedback and document process/thoughts and comments

This is an iterative process that will get the best out of all the groundwork you have done on site. The output needs to be cohesive, so rigorously keep reassessing images against the criteria you have set for them. Does each one help build the story you want to tell?

  • Probably no need to undertake further images but this may change when editing

See above question; if you’re having to fill in gap(s) then maybe a new image will help.

  • Considering final submission can not be prints and on-line exhibitions are not usually very successful, consider producing a photobook

Keep up to date with the experiences in the OCA Photograd group, take note of who feels Covid safe alternatives work. You could, of course, be in an advantageous position being in NZ.

  • Review the books by Tessa Buney – consider purchasing

Tessa Bunney – Side Gallery is a good place to start

  • Look at twitter feed on the OCA site for September – book reviews by Les Monaghan for ideas on style, size editing

Crucial that you find a suitable reference for you.

  • Write up thoughts and reflections on a number of books and how this relates to your editing for your final submission.

Think about what you want the book to achieve (as well as hitting your assignment briefs and assessment criteria)

  • look to produce a ‘draft’ version and how this can be shown for final submission

It’s fairly easy to mock up a sample by pasting prints together – nothing beats physically turning the pages over.

Keep in mind your themes, keep the edits tight and don’t be afraid to experiment with size, printing, text and papers.

Context, reflective thinking, critical thinking, analysis

Plenty of evidence of writing and reflection on your blog. Continue to situate your work within a context of photographers and artists that should inform this body of work – reflect on references above as well as your process.
