After my initial shock of receiving my tutor’s feedback on my literature review and seeing the number of comments I realised he wasn’t telling me something I didn’t already know. I wasn’t happy with the submission but I needed to submit something in order to get some help and direction and to that end I have.
My initial review was trying to relate too closely to my Body of Work and not really addressing anything at the same time. There were some useful references but the subject matter was too broad and lacked focus. I need a focus. So, I have reviewed and reviewed again the comments and formed the following plan of attach in order to rewrite my literature review:
- What is my subject
- Review notes already completed on Discourse Analysis from Gillian Rose
- Documentary as a Social practice/engagement
- Power relations – subjects using photography in therapeutic ways
- Partiality of photography:
- Images used as evidence
- Images used as tools of self-expression
- Community work and photovoice
- Representation
- Can photography change conditions, opinions?
This seems a good starting point and may result in more avenues of work but I feel this has more of a direction.
